For three years I worked as a Media Producer at Expedia, but for a week within that time I had the honor and privilege to become a Dream Adventurer. Expedia has long been a proud sponsor of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, but instead of simply donating a large sum of money the company wanted to utilize their expertise within the travel industry. The primary goal was to raise awareness in supporting cancer research while being able to bring a moment of joy for children currently battling cancer.
It all started with a nomination from Katherine Cheng, Head of Global Corporate Citizenship and Community Relations at Expedia, requesting me to submit an audition video for an upcoming service trip. Little did I know that it would have such an impact on my life. My purpose for this audition video was to 1) introduce one of my best friends, My Tam H. Nguyen , 2) share her story of beating cancer, 3) record the sunrise over Seattle and set on Neah Bay, 150 miles away and 4) all while doing a rough edit within 24 hours. Check it out below:
After I submitted my video I heard back from Katherine and the brand marketing team within a few days. I was selected.
180LA, an advertising agency based in Santa Monica, were the creative geniuses and producers of the service trip. They debriefed me on what the project entailed. I would embark on a mission to fulfill the dreams of an enthusiastic young man battling Ewing Sarcoma by the name of Sagr whom is currently undergoing cancer treatment at St Jude’s. A video crew would accompany me on my journey to document and live stream the adventure over to the hospital where it is projected into a 360 degree environment. Here is an excerpt of my journey:
